Composition

• Active ingredient: Brimonidine tartrate ophthalmic solution 0.1% or 0.15%
• Preservative: PURITE® 0.005%
• Other ingredients include boric acid, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, purified water.

Indication / Use

Used for:

• Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP)
• Treatment of:
• Open-angle glaucoma
• Ocular hypertension

Direction of Use

• Instil 1 drop into affected eye(s)
• Usually, 3 times daily approximately 8 hours apart
• If using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes apart
• Remove soft contact lenses before use and reinsert after about 10 minutes

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Eye redness
• Burning or stinging sensation
• Itching
• Blurred vision
• Dry mouth
• Drowsiness/fatigue
• Allergic conjunctivitis
• Visual disturbance

Serious side effects:

• Severe eye swelling
• Eye pain
• Vision changes
• Facial swelling or allergic reaction
• Increased eye irritation

Warnings

• Not recommended for:
• Neonates and children below 2 years
• Patients allergic to brimonidine
• Use carefully in patients with:
• Heart disease
• Low blood pressure
• Depression
• Raynaud’s disease
• Blood circulation disorders
• May cause dizziness or blurred vision; avoid driving if affected.

Interactions

May interact with:

• Antihypertensive drugs
• Cardiac glycosides
• CNS depressants (sleeping pills, alcohol, sedatives)
• Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
• Tricyclic antidepressants

Caution

• Do not touch dropper tip to the eye to avoid contamination
• Use cautiously in elderly patients and children above 2 years
• Inform doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding
• Stop use and seek medical advice if severe redness, pain, or discharge occurs
• Long-term users may develop allergic reactions over time.
