Composition
- Aspirin (Acetylsalicylic acid) 75mg – usually in dispersible form (dissolves in water)
- Drug class:
- NSAID (pain/fever reducer)
- Antiplatelet (blood thinner at low doses)
Uses / Indications
Depending on dose, it is used for:
- Prevention of:
- Heart attack
- Stroke
- Blood clots
Direction for Use
- Disperse tablet in a glass of water and drink immediately
- Take after food to reduce stomach irritation
- Use exactly as prescribed
- Do not crush or swallow dry unless directed
Side Effects
Common:
- Stomach irritation
- Heartburn
- Nausea
- Mild stomach pain
Serious:
- Stomach ulcer or bleeding
- Easy bruising or bleeding
- Allergic reactions (rash, swelling)
- Ringing in ears (high doses)
Warnings
- Do NOT use in:
- Active stomach ulcer or bleeding
- Bleeding disorders
- Avoid in children with viral infections (risk of Reye’s syndrome)
- Use cautiously in asthma (can trigger bronchospasm in some people)
- Stop before surgery unless doctor advises otherwise
Interactions
May interact with:
- Warfarin → increased bleeding risk
- Other NSAIDs (e.g., diclofenac, ibuprofen) → stomach bleeding risk
- Alcohol → increased bleeding and stomach damage
- Blood pressure medicines → reduced effect in some cases
Cautions
Use carefully in:
- Elderly patients
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- History of ulcers
- Patients on blood thinners
