Composition
- Fluticasone furoate
- Drug class: Intranasal corticosteroid (steroid nasal spray)
Uses / Indications
Used to treat allergic conditions of the nose, such as:
- Allergic rhinitis (seasonal or year-round allergies)
- Sneezing
- Runny nose
- Nasal congestion (blocked nose)
- Post-nasal drip caused by allergy
It works by reducing inflammation inside the nasal passages.
Direction for Use
- Spray into the nostrils once or twice daily (as prescribed)
- Use regularly for best effect (not instant relief)
- May take a few hours to a few days for full benefit
- Shake gently before use if instructed
- Do not blow nose immediately after spraying
Side Effects
Common:
- Nose irritation or burning
- Dry nose
- Sneezing after use
- Mild nosebleeds
- Headache
Less common:
- Nasal ulcer or soreness
- Throat irritation
Rare (with long-term use):
- Eye changes (blurred vision)
- Increased susceptibility to infections
- Hormonal effects in very high/prolonged doses
Warnings
- Do NOT use for:
- Common cold (viral infection without allergy)
- Untreated nasal infections
- Avoid spraying into eyes
- Long-term use should be monitored
- Use cautiously in children (growth monitoring may be needed)
Interactions / Cautions
- Strong antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole) may increase steroid levels
- Use carefully if also using other steroid medicines
- Pregnancy: use only if prescribed
