Composition
Bell’s Baby Teething Mixture typically contains:
- Paracetamol (about 2.4%) → pain relief and fever reduction
- Quinine bisulphate (about 0.5%) → older supportive ingredient with mild antispasmodic/soothing use
So the key active effect is paracetamol-based pain and fever relief, supported by a low-dose traditional ingredient (quinine).
Uses / Indications
- Teething pain in infants
- Irritability and discomfort from teething
- Mild fever or discomfort linked with teething
- Helps improve comfort and sleep during teething
Direction of Use
- Given orally using a measuring spoon/syringe
- Usually 2.5–5 ml per dose, up to 3–4 times daily (varies by age and label)
- Short-term use only
- Always follow pack instructions or pharmacist advice
Side Effects
Possible effects:
- Drowsiness (mild, in some infants)
- Nausea or mild stomach upset
- Constipation or loose stools
- Rare allergic reactions (rash, swelling)
Warnings / Precautions
- Do NOT exceed recommended dose (paracetamol overdose risk)
- Avoid combining with other paracetamol-containing medicines (e.g. Calpol, Lemsip)
- Use caution in very young infants (follow age limits on label)
- Seek medical help if:
- fever persists
- baby is unusually drowsy or unwell
- symptoms worsen instead of improving
Drug Interactions
- Other paracetamol products → overdose risk
- No major interactions from quinine at low dose, but caution still advised in infants
Contraindications / Caution
Avoid if:
- Allergy to paracetamol or quinine
- Severe liver problems (rare in infants but important precaution)
- Use in babies below labelled age range
