Composition
Contains:
- Pseudoephedrine → nasal decongestant (sympathomimetic)
- Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) → pain & fever reliever
- Diphenhydramine → antihistamine (sedating)
- Alcohol (small amount in syrup base) → solvent/preservative
Uses / Indications
Used for relief of cold and flu symptoms, including:
- Blocked nose (nasal congestion)
- Runny nose
- Sneezing
- Fever
- Headache
- Body aches
- Mild allergy-type symptoms
Direction for Use
- Take exact dose as directed on label or doctor instruction
- Usually every 6–8 hours
- Do not exceed maximum daily dose
- Avoid combining with other paracetamol-containing medicines
- Shake well before use
Side Effects
Common:
- Drowsiness (diphenhydramine)
- Dry mouth
- Dizziness
- Nausea
From pseudoephedrine:
- Restlessness
- Insomnia
- Fast heartbeat
- Increased blood pressure
From paracetamol overdose:
- Liver damage (serious risk if overused)
Warnings (Important)
- May cause marked drowsiness → avoid driving or alcohol
- Can raise blood pressure and heart rate
- Not suitable for people with:
- Hypertension (especially uncontrolled)
- Heart disease
- Glaucoma
- Enlarged prostate (urinary retention risk)
- Alcohol content may increase sedation and liver stress
Interactions
May interact with:
- Other paracetamol-containing drugs → overdose risk
- Alcohol → increased sedation + liver toxicity
- Sedatives or sleeping pills → excessive drowsiness
- Antidepressants (especially MAO inhibitors) → dangerous BP spikes
- Other decongestants → increased heart rate/BP
Cautions
Use carefully in:
- Elderly patients (confusion, sedation risk)
- Children (dose sensitivity)
- Liver disease
- High blood pressure or heart conditions
- Pregnancy/breastfeeding (only if advised)
