Composition
Each capsule typically contains:
- Paracetamol 500 mg → relieves pain and fever
- Phenylephrine hydrochloride 6.1 mg → decongestant (unblocks nose/sinuses)
- Caffeine 25 mg → stimulant (reduces tiredness and helps alertness)
These three act together to relieve cold and flu symptoms.
Uses / Indications
- Cold and flu symptoms
- Blocked or runny nose
- Sinus congestion and pressure
- Headache and fever
- Body aches and sore throat pain
- Fatigue and drowsiness from illness
Direction of Use
- Adults and children 16 years and over
- Usually 2 capsules every 4–6 hours as needed
- Maximum 8 capsules in 24 hours
- Do not chew or crush; swallow with water
- Short-term use only (usually a few days)
Side Effects
Common:
- Difficulty sleeping (caffeine)
- Nervousness or restlessness
- Nausea or stomach upset
- Dry mouth
- Dizziness or headache
Less common but serious:
- Increased blood pressure
- Fast heartbeat (palpitations)
- Anxiety or agitation
- Allergic reactions (rash, swelling)
- Liver damage risk in overdose (paracetamol)
Warnings / Precautions
- Contains paracetamol → do NOT combine with other paracetamol medicines
- Contains phenylephrine → may raise blood pressure
- Contains caffeine → may cause insomnia or jitteriness
- Avoid alcohol (increases side effects and liver risk)
- Use cautiously in:
- High blood pressure
- Heart disease
- Diabetes
- Thyroid disorders
- Glaucoma
- Prostate enlargement
- Do NOT use with MAO inhibitors (dangerous interaction)
Drug Interactions
- MAO inhibitors (very dangerous BP rise)
- Other decongestants
- Antidepressants (SSRIs / tricyclics)
- Blood pressure medicines
- Alcohol
- Other paracetamol-containing products
Contraindications / Caution
Avoid if:
- Allergy to any ingredient
- Severe hypertension or heart disease
- Severe liver or kidney disease
- Hyperthyroidism
- Glaucoma
- Recent MAOI use (within 14 days)
