Composition
- Glycerol (main active ingredient)
- No traditional cough suppressants or antibiotics
It is a simple soothing syrup, not a strong “medicine-type” cough suppressant.
Uses / Indications
- Relief of dry, tickly cough in infants
- Soothes irritated throat
- Helps reduce discomfort caused by colds or mild throat irritation
Works mainly by coating and lubricating the throat, not by treating infection.
Direction of Use
- 3 months to 1 year: 5 ml per dose
- 1 to 5 years: 10 ml per dose (2 × 5 ml spoonful)
- Can be given 3–4 times daily as needed
- Oral use only
- Stop and seek advice if cough lasts more than a few days
Side Effects
Generally very mild, but may include:
- Mild diarrhea (rare, due to glycerol/sweeteners)
- Stomach upset (uncommon)
- Allergic reaction (very rare)
Overdose is usually not serious but may cause:
- Loose stools or gastrointestinal discomfort
Warnings / Precautions
- Not suitable for babies under 3 months
- Use caution in:
- Fructose intolerance (some formulations contain sweeteners)
- Diabetes (may contain sugar alcohols depending on brand)
- Do not exceed recommended dose
- If cough lasts more than 3 days, seek medical advice
Drug Interactions
- No significant drug interactions known (because it contains glycerol only)
Contraindications / Caution
- Allergy to glycerol or syrup ingredients
- Infants under 3 months
- Persistent or worsening cough (needs medical review)
