Composition
CalCough Children’s Syrup contains:
- Glycerol
- Sucrose (liquid sugar)
These are soothing (demulcent) ingredients, not strong pharmacological cough suppressants. They work by coating the throat and reducing irritation.
Uses / Indications
- Relief of dry, tickly cough
- Soothing sore or irritated throat
- Helps reduce cough triggered by throat dryness or cold irritation
- Suitable for children from 1 year and above
Direction of Use
- Children 1–5 years: 5 ml, 3–4 times daily
- Children over 5 years: 10 ml, 3–4 times daily
- Oral use only
- Short-term use (if symptoms persist beyond a few days, seek advice)
Side Effects
Generally mild due to simple ingredients:
Common:
- Mild stomach upset
- Loose stools (from sugar/glycerol effect)
- Temporary bloating
Less common:
- Allergic reaction (rare)
- Mild nausea
Important long-term consideration:
- High sugar content may contribute to tooth decay or affect blood sugar in sensitive children
Warnings / Precautions
- Contains sugar (sucrose) → caution in diabetes or sugar intolerance
- May affect teeth if used frequently (oral hygiene important)
- Not suitable for children under 1 year
- Seek medical advice if:
- cough lasts more than a few days
- fever develops
- breathing becomes difficult
- Do not exceed recommended dose
Drug Interactions
- No significant drug interactions (because it contains no active systemic drug ingredients)
Contraindications / Caution
Avoid if:
- Allergy to glycerol, sucrose, or syrup ingredients
- Infant under 1 year
- Underlying serious respiratory infection not yet diagnosed
