Indication / Uses
Used for:
- Prevention of blood clots
- Reducing risk of heart attack and stroke
- Treatment of peripheral artery disease
- After placement of coronary stents
Direction of Use
- Usually taken once daily
- Take at the same time each day
- Can be taken with or without food
- Swallow whole with water
- Use exactly as prescribed (do not stop suddenly unless instructed)
Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
- Easy bruising
- Nosebleeds
- Mild stomach upset
- Diarrhea
Serious side effects (seek medical help):
- Severe bleeding (black stools, vomiting blood, blood in urine)
- Unusual bruising or prolonged bleeding
- Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
Warnings
- Increased risk of bleeding (including internal bleeding)
- Inform healthcare providers before surgery or dental procedures
- Use cautiously in patients with bleeding disorders or ulcers
- Do not combine with other blood thinners unless prescribed
Interactions
May interact with:
- Aspirin and other NSAIDs (increase bleeding risk)
- Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, heparin)
- Some proton pump inhibitors (e.g., omeprazole may reduce effect)
- Certain antidepressants (SSRIs/SNRIs)

Caution
- Avoid activities with high injury risk
- Limit alcohol (increases bleeding risk)
