Composition
- Fluconazole 150 mg
- Drug class: Azole antifungal (triazole antifungal)
Uses / Indications
Used to treat fungal and yeast infections, including:
- Vaginal candidiasis (yeast infection)
- Oral thrush
- Fungal skin infections
- Oesophageal candidiasis
- Certain systemic fungal infections
A single 150 mg dose is commonly used for vaginal yeast infection.
Direction for Use
- Usually taken as a single oral dose for uncomplicated vaginal candidiasis
- Can be taken with or without food
- Swallow with water
- Follow doctor’s instructions for repeated or long-term treatment
Side Effects
Common:
- Nausea
- Abdominal pain
- Headache
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
Less common:
Rare but serious:
- Liver problems
- Severe allergic reactions
- Irregular heartbeat (QT prolongation)
Warnings
- Use cautiously in:
- Liver disease
- Kidney disease
- Heart rhythm disorders
- Do not self-treat recurrent infections repeatedly without evaluation
- Seek medical care if severe rash or yellowing of eyes/skin occurs
Interactions
May interact with:
- Warfarin → increased bleeding risk
- Certain diabetes medicines → increased hypoglycaemia risk
- Some statins → muscle toxicity risk
- Certain heart rhythm medications
Cautions
Use carefully in:
- Pregnancy (especially high doses or prolonged use)
- Breastfeeding
- Elderly patients
- Patients taking multiple medications metabolized by the liver
