Use / Indications

Used for:

  • Mixed vaginal infections
  • Bacterial vaginosis
  • Vaginal candidiasis (yeast infection)
  • Vaginal discharge associated with infection
  • Vaginal itching, irritation, and burning caused by susceptible infections

 

Mechanism of Action

  • Metronidazole kills susceptible bacteria by damaging their DNA.
  • Miconazole destroys fungi by disrupting fungal cell membrane formation. Together they treat mixed bacterial and fungal vaginal infections.

 

Direction of Use

Typical dosage:

  • Insert one applicatorful (about 5 g) deep into the vagina at bedtime for 5 consecutive days, or as prescribed.

Instructions:

  1. Wash hands before and after use.
  2. Fill the applicator according to the package instructions.
  3. Insert deeply into the vagina while lying down.
  4. Preferably use at night before sleeping.
  5. Complete the full treatment course even if symptoms improve early.

 

Common Side Effects

  • Vaginal burning

  • Mild discomfort at the application site

 

Serious Side Effects

Seek medical attention if:

  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Swelling of face, lips, or throat
  • Severe rash
  • Persistent severe vaginal irritation
  • Difficulty breathing

 

Warnings

Do NOT use if:

  • Allergic to metronidazole, miconazole, or related medicines.
  • The infection has not been properly diagnosed.
  • You have severe unexplained vaginal bleeding without medical assessment.

 

Drug Interactions

Use cautiously with:

  • Other vaginal medications
  • Antifungal medicines
  • Antibiotics
  • Alcohol (may increase adverse effects related to metronidazole)

 

Cautions

  • For intravaginal use only.
  • Avoid sexual intercourse during treatment if possible.
  • The gel may weaken latex condoms and diaphragms during treatment.
  • Consult a healthcare professional if symptoms do not improve within a few days or recur frequently.
