Use / Indications
Used for:
- Mild to moderate acne vulgaris
- Papulopustular rosacea (red bumps and pimples associated with rosacea)
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (off-label use)
- Facial redness associated with inflammatory skin conditions
Mechanism of Action
Azelaic acid:
- Reduces acne-causing bacteria
- Decreases inflammation
- Normalizes skin cell turnover
- Helps reduce clogged pores
- Can help improve skin discoloration and post-acne marks
Direction of Use
Typical dosage:
- Apply a thin layer twice daily (morning and evening)
Instructions:
- Wash the affected area with a mild cleanser and pat dry.
- Apply a thin layer to the affected skin.
- Rub in gently until absorbed.
- Wash hands after application.
- Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and inside the nose.

Serious Side Effects
Seek medical attention if:
- Severe allergic reaction

Warnings
Do NOT use:
- In the eyes
- Inside the mouth
- Inside the nose
- On severely irritated skin unless advised by a healthcare professional
Important warnings:

- Monitor for skin lightening in patients with darker complexions
- Avoid harsh cleansers and irritating skin products during treatment
Drug Interactions
No major drug interactions have been identified with topical Finacea. However, use cautiously with:
- Topical retinoids (e.g., tretinoin)
- Benzoyl peroxide
- Salicylic acid
- Strong exfoliating products
- Alcohol-containing toners and astringents
Using multiple irritating products together may increase redness and dryness.
Cautions
- Use sunscreen daily.
- If irritation occurs, reduce application frequency temporarily.
- Use cautiously during pregnancy and breastfeeding under medical supervision.
- Consistent use for several weeks is usually required before improvement is seen
