Composition
- Active ingredients:
- Bimatoprost 0.3 mg/mL (0.03%)
- Timolol 5 mg/mL (0.5%)
- Form: Ophthalmic (eye drop) solution
Indication / Use
Used for:
- Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP)
- Treatment of:
- Open-angle glaucoma
- Ocular hypertension
Usually prescribed when response to a single glaucoma medication is inadequate.
Direction of Use
- Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s)
- Usually once daily (morning or evening)
- Use at the same time each day
- If using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between medications
- Remove contact lenses before use and reinsert after about 15 minutes
- Avoid touching the dropper tip to prevent contamination
Side Effects
Common side effects:
- Eye redness
- Burning or stinging sensation
- Eye irritation or itching
- Dry eyes
- Blurred vision
- Eyelash growth/thickening
- Darkening of eyelid skin
- Eye discomfort
Serious side effects:
- Difficulty breathing
- Slow heartbeat
- Severe allergic reactions
- Eye swelling or severe pain
- Vision changes
- Persistent headaches
Community-reported effects from glaucoma patients include dryness, burning, redness, eyelid darkening, and discomfort with long-term use.
Warnings
- Contraindicated in patients with:
- Asthma
- Severe COPD
- Certain heart conditions
- Allergy to bimatoprost or timolol
- May cause permanent iris color darkening
- Can temporarily blur vision
- Use cautiously in patients with:
- Heart disease
- Respiratory disease
- Diabetes
- Low blood pressure
Interactions
May interact with:
- Beta-blockers
- Antihypertensive medicines
- Calcium channel blockers
- Digoxin
- Antidiabetic drugs
- Other glaucoma eye drops
- CNS depressants and alcohol
Caution
- Temporary blurred vision may affect driving or machine use
- Use carefully during pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Long-term use may cause cosmetic eye changes around the eyes
- Discard bottle within about 4 weeks after opening
- Monitor for irritation, allergy, or persistent dryness
- Artificial tears/lubricants may help relieve dryness caused by glaucoma drops
