Composition
Most spectacle and lens wipes contain:
- Purified water
- Isopropyl alcohol or ethanol (low concentration) – degreasing and fast drying
- Surfactants (mild detergents) – remove oils, fingerprints, dirt
- Antistatic agents – reduce dust attraction
- Preservatives (varies by brand)
- Soft non-woven microfiber tissue material
These are non-medicated cleaning wipes, not eye treatment products.
Indication / Use
Used for cleaning:
- Spectacle lenses (glass or plastic)
- Prescription glasses (including coated lenses)
- Sunglasses
- Non-coated or compatible contact lenses (ONLY if manufacturer allows)
- Camera lenses or screens (some multipurpose wipes)
They help remove:
- Fingerprints
- Oil/grease
- Dust and smudges
- Light dirt and debris
Direction of Use
- Remove wipe from sachet
- Gently wipe lens surface in circular motion
- Allow to air dry (no need to rinse)
- Use a fresh wipe each time
- Do not reuse wipe
Side Effects / Issues
Not true medical side effects, but possible problems:
- Mild eye irritation if residue enters eye
- Temporary blurred vision if not fully dried
- Streaking if wipe is too wet or dirty
- Possible lens coating damage with repeated harsh use (low-quality wipes)
Warnings
- Do NOT use on:
- Broken or damaged lenses
- Eyes directly (not an eye drop substitute)
- Avoid use on uncertain lens coatings unless label confirms compatibility
- Keep away from open flames (contains alcohol in many brands)
- Do not ingest
- Avoid contact with open cuts or broken skin
Interactions
- No drug interactions (not a medicine)
- May damage:
- Anti-reflective coatings if poor-quality wipes are used frequently
- Some specialty lens coatings if not compatible
Caution
- Always check if wipes are safe for:
- Anti-glare lenses
- Blue-light coated lenses
- For heavy dirt/oil:
- Pre-rinse with lens solution may be better
- Not a substitute for:
- Contact lens cleaning solution (like Vizulize)
- Keep wipes sealed to prevent drying out
- Discard if dried or contaminated
