Composition
There are different Lemsip Max sachets, but the standard Max Cold & Flu sachet contains:
- Paracetamol 1000 mg → relieves pain and fever
- Phenylephrine hydrochloride 10 mg → decongestant for blocked nose and sinus pressure
(Some variants also contain flavours, sweeteners like aspartame, sucrose, and sodium compounds depending on flavour type.)
Uses / Indications
- Cold and flu symptoms
- Blocked or runny nose
- Sinus congestion and pressure
- Headache
- Fever and body aches
- Sore throat discomfort
Direction of Use
- Adults and children 16 years and over
- Dissolve 1 sachet in hot water
- Repeat every 4–6 hours if needed
- Maximum 4 sachets in 24 hours
- Short-term use only (usually up to 5 days)
Side Effects
Common:
- Nausea or stomach upset
- Nervousness or restlessness
- Difficulty sleeping
- Dizziness
- Dry mouth
Less common but important:
- Increased blood pressure
- Fast heartbeat (palpitations)
- Anxiety or agitation
- Skin rash or allergic reactions
- Rare liver damage (if overdosed with paracetamol)
Warnings / Precautions
- Contains paracetamol → do NOT combine with other paracetamol medicines
- Contains phenylephrine → may increase blood pressure
- Avoid alcohol (liver risk + worsened side effects)
- Use carefully in:
- High blood pressure
- Heart disease
- Diabetes
- Thyroid problems
- Glaucoma
- Prostate enlargement
- Not suitable with MAO inhibitors (dangerous interaction)
- Do not exceed dose (paracetamol overdose risk)
Drug Interactions
- MAO inhibitors (very dangerous BP spike)
- Other decongestants (overdose effects)
- Antidepressants (SSRIs / tricyclics)
- Blood pressure medicines
- Alcohol
- Other paracetamol-containing products
Contraindications / Caution
Avoid if:
- Allergy to paracetamol or phenylephrine
- Severe hypertension or heart disease
- Severe liver or kidney disease
- Hyperthyroidism
- Glaucoma
- Recent MAOI use (within 14 days)
