Composition:
Each tablet contains Levonorgestrel 1500 micrograms (1.5 mg).
Use / Indication:
Used as an emergency contraceptive (“morning-after pill”) to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure (e.g., condom breakage or missed pills).
Direction of Use:
Take one tablet orally as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours and no later than 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected intercourse. Swallow with water. Can be taken with or without food.
Side Effects:
- Nausea or vomiting
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Fatigue
- Abdominal pain
- Breast tenderness
- Changes in menstrual cycle (early, late, heavier, or lighter bleeding)
Warnings:
- Not for regular contraceptive use.
- Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
- May be less effective if vomiting occurs within 3 hours of taking the tablet (a repeat dose may be needed).
- Seek medical advice if menstruation is delayed by more than 7 days or pregnancy is suspected.
Drug Interactions:
- May be less effective with enzyme-inducing drugs such as:
- Rifampicin
- Carbamazepine
- Phenytoin
- St John’s Wort
- Inform a healthcare professional about all medicines being taken.
Caution:
- Use with caution in women with liver disease or severe gastrointestinal disorders.
- Not recommended for routine or repeated use within the same cycle.
- If vomiting or severe diarrhea occurs shortly after taking, effectiveness may be reduced.
