Composition
- Active ingredient: Bimatoprost 0.03% ophthalmic solution
- Drug class: Prostagaglandin analogue
- Contains preservative: Benzalkonium chloride
Indication / Use
Used for:
- Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP)
- Treatment of:
- Open-angle glaucoma
- Ocular hypertension
It works by increasing the drainage of fluid from the eye.
Direction of Use
- Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s)
- Usually once daily in the evening/night
- Do not use more than prescribed because effectiveness may decrease
- Wait at least 5–10 minutes before using another eye medication
- Remove contact lenses before use and reinsert after 15 minutes
Side Effects
Common side effects:
- Eye redness (conjunctival hyperaemia)
- Eye itching
- Burning or stinging
- Dry eyes
- Blurred vision
- Eyelash growth/thickening
- Darkening of eyelid skin
Serious side effects:
- Macular oedema
- Eye inflammation (uveitis)
- Eye infection
- Permanent iris colour change
- Vision changes
Warnings
- May cause:
- Permanent brown discoloration of the iris
- Eyelid pigmentation
- Increased eyelash length and thickness
- Use cautiously in patients with:
- History of eye inflammation
- Macular oedema
- Eye surgery
- Avoid contamination of the bottle tip to prevent infection
Interactions
May interact with:
- Other prostaglandin analogue eye drops (e.g., latanoprost, travoprost)
- NSAID eye drops
- Multiple ophthalmic medications if not spaced properly
Caution
- Temporary blurred vision may occur after application
- Avoid driving until vision clears
- Use carefully during pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Long-term use may cause cosmetic changes around the eyes
- Keep bottle tightly closed and avoid touching the dropper tip
- Contact lenses should not be worn during instillation
