Composition
Contains:
- Sugar → sweetening base (soothing, energy source, but not therapeutic)
- Menthol crystals → cooling, mild local anaesthetic effect on throat
- Eucalyptus oil → decongestant, helps open airways and loosen mucus sensation
- Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza extract) → throat soothing, anti-inflammatory, demulcent effect
Uses / Indications
Used for symptomatic relief of throat and respiratory irritation, including:
- Sore throat
- Dry cough
- Mild chest congestion
- Throat dryness or irritation from cold/flu
- Hoarseness
- Irritated airways from dust or smoke
Direction for Use
- Dissolve 1 lozenge slowly in the mouth
- Use every 2–4 hours as needed
- Do not chew or swallow whole
- Limit total daily intake as per label instructions
- Best taken after meals or when throat symptoms appear
Side Effects
Common (mild):
- Temporary mouth cooling or burning sensation
- Mild stomach discomfort (if swallowed frequently)
- Increased saliva flow
Less common:
- Heartburn or acidity (due to liquorice or eucalyptus in sensitive people)
- Nausea
Rare:
- Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling)
- Mouth irritation with overuse
Warnings
- Contains sugar → caution in diabetes
- Avoid excessive use (especially due to liquorice)
- Do not use in young children unless advised
- Stop if irritation worsens
- If sore throat lasts > 1 week or worsens → seek medical care
Interactions
Possible concerns:
- Liquorice + diuretics (e.g., furosemide) → may increase risk of low potassium if consumed excessively
- May worsen BP control in high amounts (rare, with chronic high intake of liquorice)
- No major acute drug interactions otherwise (local action)
Cautions
