Composition
Each 5 ml typically contains:
- Carbocisteine 100 mg (2%) → mucolytic (thins and regulates mucus)
It works by reducing the thickness and stickiness of phlegm, making it easier to cough out.
Uses / Indications
- Chesty (productive) cough with thick mucus
- Bronchitis (acute or mild chronic cases)
- Excess sticky sputum in airways
- Respiratory infections with mucus build-up
- Helps clear chest congestion and improve breathing
It is a mucus-thinning (mucolytic) medicine, not for dry cough.
Direction of Use
Typical paediatric use (varies by age and prescription):
- Children 2–5 years: smaller doses 2–3 times daily
- Children 5–12 years: standard doses 2–3 times daily
- Usually taken after food
- Use measuring spoon/cup
- Short-term use unless prescribed longer
Side Effects
Common:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Stomach discomfort
- Diarrhea
Less common:
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Skin rash
Rare:
- Allergic reactions (swelling, breathing difficulty)
Warnings / Precautions
- Use cautiously in children with stomach ulcers
- Take after food to reduce stomach irritation
- Contains sugar (caution in diabetes depending on formulation)
- Not for children under age limit stated on label without medical advice
