Composition

Each capsule contains:

  • Paracetamol 500 mg (pain and fever relief)
  • Promethazine hydrochloride 10 mg (sedating antihistamine)
  • Dextromethorphan hydrobromide 7.5 mg (cough suppressant)

These act together to relieve night-time cold and flu symptoms.


 

Uses / Indications

  • Relief of cold and flu symptoms at night
  • Dry cough suppression
  • Fever and body aches
  • Runny nose and sneezing
  • Helps with sleep during illness due to sedative effect

 

Direction of Use

  • Adults and children 16 years and over
  • Usual dose: 2 capsules at bedtime
  • Only one dose per night
  • Short-term use only (typically max 3 nights without medical advice)
  • Swallow with water

 

Side Effects

Common or possible effects:

  • Drowsiness (very common)
  • Dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Blurred vision
  • Nausea or stomach discomfort
  • Morning grogginess

Less common but serious:

  • Confusion or hallucinations
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Allergic reactions (rash, swelling)
  • Difficulty passing urine
  • Respiratory depression (rare, overdose risk)

 

Warnings / Precautions

  • May cause strong sedation → avoid driving or machinery
  • Do not use with alcohol
  • Contains paracetamol → avoid other paracetamol products (liver risk)
  • Contains promethazine → can cause heavy drowsiness and confusion
  • Risk of interaction with:
    • antidepressants (SSRIs/MAOIs)
    • other antihistamines
    • sedatives or sleeping tablets
  • Not suitable for:
    • children under 16 years
    • people with severe breathing problems (asthma, COPD flare)
    • MAOI use within last 14 days
  • Use caution in elderly due to confusion risk

 

Drug Interactions

  • MAO inhibitors (dangerous interaction)
  • SSRIs / SNRIs / tricyclic antidepressants (serotonin syndrome risk with dextromethorphan)
  • Alcohol (increased sedation and liver strain)
  • Other antihistamines or sedatives
  • Other paracetamol-containing products

 

Contraindications / Caution

Avoid if:

  • Allergy to paracetamol, promethazine, or dextromethorphan
  • Severe respiratory disease or breathing failure
  • Recent MAOI use (within 14 days)
  • Severe liver disease
  • High risk of urinary retention or glaucoma
