Composition
From product formulations (varies slightly by country):
- Isotonic buffered solution (tear-like solution)
- HPMC (Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) – lubricating/soothing agent
- PHMB (Polyhexamethylene biguanide) – mild preservative
- Purified water
- Sodium chloride & sodium bicarbonate – salt balance (matches natural tears)
- Boric acid / borates – buffering and comfort agents
- Some versions may include plant extracts (e.g., witch hazel) depending on market
Overall: it is a non-medicated eye rinse (eye wash) designed to cleanse, not treat disease.
Indication / Use
Used for:
- Tired eyes
- Irritated or gritty eyes
- Mild redness or discomfort
- Exposure to:
- Dust
- Pollen
- Smoke
- Pollution
- Screen/eye strain
It works by:
- Physically washing away irritants
- Refreshing and soothing the eye surface
Direction of Use
- Wash hands before use
- Fill provided eye bath ~1/3 full
- Tilt head forward and bathe each eye for about 30 seconds
- Gently move eye to allow flushing
- Discard solution after use (do not reuse leftover liquid)
- Repeat for other eye
- Can be used with contact lenses in some versions (check label)
Side Effects
Common:
- Mild stinging on application
- Temporary blurred vision
- Mild irritation or watering
Less common:
- Redness or dryness if sensitive
- Discomfort from preservatives in sensitive eyes
Rare:
- Allergic reaction (itching, swelling, worsening irritation)
Warnings
- Do NOT use if:
- Allergy to any ingredient
- Eye infection requiring treatment is suspected (it will not treat infection)
- Avoid contamination:
- Do not touch eye bath tip to eye
- Do not reuse solution
- Discontinue if irritation persists or worsens
- Keep out of reach of children
Interactions
- No meaningful drug interactions
- If used with other eye drops:
- Use medicated drops first
- Wait 5–10 minutes before using eye wash or lubricants
Caution
- This is a cleansing rinse, not a medicine
- Does NOT treat:
- Glaucoma
- Bacterial/viral infection
- Severe dry eye disease
- Overuse is unnecessary (use when eyes feel irritated, not continuously)
- If symptoms are frequent, underlying causes may include:
- Dry eye disease
- Allergic conjunctivitis
- Meibomian gland dysfunction
- Persistent symptoms should be checked clinically
