Composition
It contains only paracetamol, but uses a special fast-absorbing formulation (often called OPTIZORB technology in some markets) to make it act quicker than standard tablets.
Uses / Indications
Used for pain and fever relief, including:
- Headache and migraine
- Toothache
- Muscle and back pain
- Period pain
- Sore throat
- Cold and flu symptoms (fever, body aches)
- Mild arthritis pain
Direction of Use
- Adults: usually 1–2 tablets every 4–6 hours as needed
- Maximum: 8 tablets in 24 hours
- Swallow with water
- Short-term use only
- Not usually recommended for children under 10–12 years (depending on local guidance)
Side Effects
Most people tolerate it well, but possible effects include:
- Nausea
- Skin rash (rare allergy)
- Very rare serious skin reactions
- Liver damage in overdose (most important risk)
Overdose can cause serious delayed liver failure, even if you feel fine at first.
Warnings / Precautions
- Do NOT combine with other paracetamol-containing medicines (e.g. Lemsip, Beechams, Day Nurse)
- Avoid alcohol (increases liver toxicity risk)
- Use caution in:
- Liver disease
- Kidney disease
- Chronic alcohol use
- Malnutrition or fasting states
- Overdose requires urgent medical treatment even if symptoms are mild at first
Drug Interactions
- Other paracetamol products (highest risk)
- Alcohol
- Certain liver-affecting drugs (e.g. some antibiotics like flucloxacillin in rare cases)
- Medicines that affect liver metabolism
Contraindications / Caution
Avoid if:
- Allergy to paracetamol
- Severe liver failure
