How It Works
Pregabalin works by binding to calcium channels in the nervous system, reducing excessive nerve signalling that causes pain, tingling, and hypersensitivity.
Dosage
Adults:
- Usually started at a low dose (e.g. 75–150 mg/day equivalent)
- ER formulation is taken once daily, dose adjusted based on response and tolerance
- Must be individualized by a prescriber
How to Use
- Take once daily at the same time
- Swallow whole (do not crush or chew ER capsules)
- Can be taken with or without food
- Do not stop suddenly without medical advice
Possible Side Effects
Common:
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Blurred vision
- Dry mouth
- Weight gain
- Swelling (edema)
- Difficulty concentrating
Warnings / Precautions
- May impair alertness → avoid driving if affected
- Avoid alcohol (increases sedation)
- Use caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment needed)
- Do not stop abruptly (risk of withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, seizures)
- May cause mood changes in some patients
