Composition
Each tablet contains:
- Calcium carbonate
- Magnesium carbonate
These are antacids that neutralise excess stomach acid.
Uses / Indications
Used for acid-related stomach problems, including:
- Heartburn
- Acid reflux
- Indigestion
- Sour stomach after meals
- Bloating or discomfort from excess acid
It works by directly neutralising stomach acid in the stomach.
Direction of Use
- Adults and children over 12 years
- Usually 1–2 tablets as needed
- Chew or suck after meals or when symptoms occur
- Maximum daily limit: about 10–11 tablets/day (varies by brand)
- Short-term use only (not more than ~2 weeks without advice)
Side Effects
Usually mild, but may include:
- Constipation or diarrhoea
- Bloating or gas
- Nausea or stomach discomfort
- Rare: allergic reactions
If overused:
- High calcium or magnesium levels
- Weakness, kidney strain, or “milk-alkali syndrome” (rare but serious)
Warnings / Precautions
- Do NOT use long-term without medical advice
- Avoid in:
- Severe kidney disease
- Kidney stones (calcium-related)
- High calcium or low phosphate conditions
- Avoid taking with large amounts of milk/dairy (risk of excess calcium)
- May mask more serious stomach disease if overused
Drug Interactions
May reduce absorption of:
- Antibiotics (e.g. tetracyclines, quinolones)
- Iron supplements
- Thyroid medicines
- Some heart and bone medicines
Separate other medicines by 1–2 hours before or after use.
Contraindications / Caution
Avoid if:
- Allergy to ingredients
- Severe kidney failure
- High calcium levels or kidney stones
