Composition

Day capsules

  • Paracetamol 500 mg (pain and fever relief)
  • Phenylephrine hydrochloride 6.1 mg (nasal decongestant)
  • Caffeine 25 mg (reduces tiredness, mild stimulant)

 

Uses / Indications

Used for relief of cold, flu, and sinus symptoms, including:

  • Blocked or stuffy nose
  • Sinus pressure and pain
  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Body aches
  • Daytime tiredness (day capsules)
  • Night-time congestion affecting sleep

 

Direction of Use

  • Adults and children 16 years and over
  • Daytime: usually 2 capsules every 4–6 hours (max 3 doses/day)
  • Night-time: 2 capsules at bedtime
  • Do not exceed total daily limit (max 8 capsules/day)
  • Swallow whole with water
  • Do not chew
  • Short-term use only (usually max 3 days without medical advice)

 

Side Effects

Common or possible:

  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea or stomach upset
  • Restlessness or trouble sleeping (especially day capsules due to caffeine)
  • Dizziness or headache
  • Increased heart rate or palpitations

Less common but serious:

  • High blood pressure
  • Anxiety or agitation
  • Urinary retention
  • Allergic reactions (rash, swelling)
  • Rare heart rhythm changes

 

Warnings / Precautions

  • Contains paracetamol → do NOT combine with other paracetamol medicines
  • Contains phenylephrine → can increase blood pressure
  • Day capsules contain caffeine → may cause insomnia or jitteriness
  • Avoid alcohol (increases side effects and liver risk)
  • Use cautiously in:
    • High blood pressure
    • Heart disease
    • Diabetes
    • Thyroid disorders
    • Glaucoma
    • Prostate enlargement
  • Do NOT use with MAO inhibitors (dangerous interaction)

 

Drug Interactions

  • MAO inhibitors (can cause severe blood pressure rise)
  • Other decongestants (overdose risk)
  • Antidepressants (especially tricyclics/SSRIs)
  • Blood pressure medicines (may be less effective)
  • Sedatives or alcohol (worsened side effects)
  • Other paracetamol-containing products

 

Contraindications / Caution

Avoid if:

  • Allergy to paracetamol, phenylephrine, or caffeine
  • Severe hypertension or cardiovascular disease
  • Severe liver or kidney disease
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Glaucoma
  • Recent MAOI use (within 14 days)
