Composition
Day capsules
- Paracetamol 500 mg (pain and fever relief)
- Phenylephrine hydrochloride 6.1 mg (nasal decongestant)
- Caffeine 25 mg (reduces tiredness, mild stimulant)
Uses / Indications
Used for relief of cold, flu, and sinus symptoms, including:
- Blocked or stuffy nose
- Sinus pressure and pain
- Headache
- Fever
- Body aches
- Daytime tiredness (day capsules)
- Night-time congestion affecting sleep
Direction of Use
- Adults and children 16 years and over
- Daytime: usually 2 capsules every 4–6 hours (max 3 doses/day)
- Night-time: 2 capsules at bedtime
- Do not exceed total daily limit (max 8 capsules/day)
- Swallow whole with water
- Do not chew
- Short-term use only (usually max 3 days without medical advice)
Side Effects
Common or possible:
- Dry mouth
- Nausea or stomach upset
- Restlessness or trouble sleeping (especially day capsules due to caffeine)
- Dizziness or headache
- Increased heart rate or palpitations
Less common but serious:
- High blood pressure
- Anxiety or agitation
- Urinary retention
- Allergic reactions (rash, swelling)
- Rare heart rhythm changes
Warnings / Precautions
- Contains paracetamol → do NOT combine with other paracetamol medicines
- Contains phenylephrine → can increase blood pressure
- Day capsules contain caffeine → may cause insomnia or jitteriness
- Avoid alcohol (increases side effects and liver risk)
- Use cautiously in:
- High blood pressure
- Heart disease
- Diabetes
- Thyroid disorders
- Glaucoma
- Prostate enlargement
- Do NOT use with MAO inhibitors (dangerous interaction)
Drug Interactions
- MAO inhibitors (can cause severe blood pressure rise)
- Other decongestants (overdose risk)
- Antidepressants (especially tricyclics/SSRIs)
- Blood pressure medicines (may be less effective)
- Sedatives or alcohol (worsened side effects)
- Other paracetamol-containing products
Contraindications / Caution
Avoid if:
- Allergy to paracetamol, phenylephrine, or caffeine
- Severe hypertension or cardiovascular disease
- Severe liver or kidney disease
- Hyperthyroidism
- Glaucoma
- Recent MAOI use (within 14 days)
