Composition

Each capsule typically contains:

  • Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) 500 mg → relieves pain and fever
  • Phenylephrine hydrochloride 6.1 mg → nasal decongestant (unblocks nose and sinuses)
  • Caffeine 25 mg → helps reduce tiredness and boosts alertness

These ingredients work together to relieve sinus pressure, congestion, headache, and flu-like symptoms.


 

Uses / Indications

  • Sinus congestion and pressure
  • Blocked or stuffy nose
  • Headache due to sinusitis or cold
  • Fever
  • Aches and pains from cold or flu
  • Tiredness during illness

 

Direction of Use

  • Adults and children 16 years and over
  • Usually 2 capsules every 4 hours as needed
  • Maximum 8 capsules in 24 hours (4 doses)
  • Short-term use only (generally max 3 days unless advised)
  • Swallow whole with water
  • Do not take with other paracetamol-containing products

 

Side Effects

Common or possible effects:

  • Nervousness or restlessness (caffeine effect)
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Dizziness or headache
  • Nausea or stomach upset
  • Increased heart rate or palpitations
  • Dry mouth

Serious (less common):

  • High blood pressure
  • Anxiety or agitation
  • Allergic reactions (rash, swelling)
  • Rare liver damage (paracetamol overdose risk)

 

Warnings / Precautions

  • Contains paracetamol → do not combine with other paracetamol medicines
  • May increase blood pressure (phenylephrine)
  • Can cause insomnia due to caffeine
  • Avoid alcohol (increases liver risk)
  • Use cautiously in:
    • High blood pressure
    • Heart disease
    • Liver or kidney problems
    • Thyroid disorders
    • Glaucoma
  • Not suitable with MAO inhibitors (dangerous interaction)

 

Drug Interactions

  • MAO inhibitors (dangerous blood pressure rise)
  • Other decongestants (overdose effects)
  • Antidepressants (especially tricyclics/SSRIs)
  • Beta-blockers and blood pressure medicines
  • Alcohol
  • Other paracetamol products

 

Contraindications / Caution

  • Severe hypertension or cardiovascular disease
  • Severe liver disease
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Glaucoma
