Composition
- Albendazole 200 mg
- Drug class: Anthelmintic / antiparasitic medicine
Albendazole works by preventing worms from absorbing glucose, causing them to lose energy and die.
Uses / Indications
Used to treat worm infections such as:
- Roundworm
- Hookworm
- Pinworm (threadworm)
- Whipworm
- Tapeworm infections
- Other intestinal parasitic infections
Albendazole is also used in some serious parasitic diseases such as neurocysticercosis and hydatid disease under medical supervision.
Direction for Use
- Usually taken as a single dose for common intestinal worms
- May be repeated after 2 weeks for pinworm reinfection
- Best taken with food, especially fatty meals, to improve absorption
- Dose and duration depend on:
- Type of worm infection
- Age and weight
- Severity of infection
Side Effects
Common:
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Diarrhea
Less common:
- Fever
- Temporary hair loss
- Fatigue
Rare but serious:
- Liver problems
- Bone marrow suppression
- Severe allergic reactions
Warnings
- Avoid use during pregnancy, especially first trimester
- Long-term/high-dose use may affect:
- Liver function
- Blood cell production
- Seek medical care if you develop:
- Yellow eyes/skin
- Severe rash
- Persistent fever
- Unusual bleeding
Interactions
May interact with:
- Anti-seizure medicines such as carbamazepine or phenytoin
- Grapefruit juice
- Immunosuppressive medicines
- Other antiparasitic drugs
Cautions

- Liver disease
