1. Composition

  • Theophylline – 120 mg per tablet
  • Ephedrine – 11 mg per tablet

Other inactive ingredients: starch, lactose, magnesium stearate, etc.

Drug class:

  • Bronchodilator combination
  • Theophylline: xanthine derivative
  • Ephedrine: sympathomimetic amine

2. Uses / Indications

Asmanol tablets are used for:

  • Relief and prevention of bronchospasm
  • Asthma management
  • Chronic bronchitis and COPD
  • Wheezing, shortness of breath, and airway obstruction

Mechanism of action:

  • Theophylline: relaxes bronchial smooth muscles, improves airflow, mild anti-inflammatory effect
  • Ephedrine: stimulates β2-adrenergic receptors, causing bronchodilation and opening of airways

3. Direction for Use

(Dosage depends on doctor’s prescription)

  • Adults: usually 1 tablet 2–3 times daily
  • Children: dose adjusted by age/weight by a healthcare professional
  • Take orally with water, with or after food to reduce stomach irritation

4. Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Tremors or shakiness
  • Nervousness, restlessness
  • Headache
  • Palpitations or fast heartbeat
  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset
  • Insomnia

Serious side effects (rare):

  • Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)
  • Seizures (with high theophylline levels)
  • High blood pressure (from ephedrine)

5. Warnings / Interactions / Cautions

  • Do not exceed recommended dose
  • Use cautiously in patients with:
    • Heart disease or arrhythmia
    • High blood pressure
    • Hyperthyroidism
    • Seizure disorders
    • Diabetes

 

  • Interactions with:
    • Other sympathomimetics, beta-blockers, theophylline-containing medications, caffeine
  • Avoid in pregnancy or breastfeeding unless prescribed
  • Monitor for signs of overdosage: severe tremors, palpitations, nausea, vomiting, confusion
