Composition
Kalms Night is a traditional herbal sleep aid. Each tablet contains:
- Valerian root extract (Valeriana officinalis) ~96 mg
(equivalent to ~384–480 mg dried valerian root)
- Extract solvent: ethanol (about 60% v/v during extraction process)
- Tablet excipients (binders/coating agents)
Valerian is the main active ingredient responsible for its calming and sleep-promoting effect.
Use / Indication
- Temporary relief of sleep disturbances
- Helps with:
- Difficulty falling asleep
- Restless or poor-quality sleep
- Mild stress-related insomnia
- Traditional herbal medicine based on long-standing use rather than strong clinical sedative action
Direction of Use
- Adults and elderly: 4 tablets 30–60 minutes before bedtime
- If needed, additional tablets may be taken earlier in the evening
- Should be used continuously for 2–4 weeks for best effect
- Not recommended for children and adolescents under 18
- Take at the same time each night for consistency
Side Effects
Possible (usually mild):
- Nausea or stomach discomfort
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Vivid dreams or nightmares
- Daytime drowsiness (less common)
Rare:
- Gastrointestinal cramps or allergic reactions
Warning
- Do not use with alcohol
- Avoid combining with:
- Sleeping tablets
- Anti-anxiety sedatives
- Strong CNS depressants
- May impair driving or machine use
- Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Stop use and consult a doctor if sleep problems persist beyond 4 weeks
- Do not exceed recommended dose
Interaction
- Sedatives (benzodiazepines, antihistamine sleep aids) → increased drowsiness
- Alcohol → stronger sedative effect
- Other herbal sleep aids → additive calming effects
- CNS depressant medicines → increased sleepiness and reduced alertness
Caution
- Effect is usually gradual (not immediate like prescription sleeping pills)
- May cause next-day grogginess in sensitive people
- Not suitable for long-term continuous use without medical review
- Underlying causes of insomnia (stress, anxiety, sleep hygiene issues) should be addressed if symptoms persist
