Composition

Most L-Montus Kid formulations contain:

  • Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride 2.5 mg
  • Montelukast Sodium 4 mg

Use / Indications

Used in children for:

  • Allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
  • Sneezing
  • Runny nose
  • Nasal congestion
  • Itchy nose and throat
  • Watery or itchy eyes
  • Seasonal allergies
  • Prevention and control of allergy-related asthma symptoms (as prescribed)

 

Mechanism of Action

  • Levocetirizine blocks histamine, reducing allergy symptoms such as itching, sneezing, and runny nose.
  • Montelukast blocks leukotrienes, reducing inflammation and swelling in the airways and nasal passages.

 

Direction of Use

Children 2–5 years (typical dose):

  • 1 tablet or as prescribed by a healthcare professional.

 

Instructions:

  • Usually given in the evening.
  • Can be taken with or without food.
  • Follow the paediatrician’s prescribed dose.

 

Common Side Effects

  • Drowsiness
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue

 

Serious Side Effects

Seek medical attention if the child develops:

  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Severe skin rash
  • Unusual behaviour changes
  • Nightmares, anxiety, aggression, or mood changes

 

Warnings

Do NOT use if:

  • The child is allergic to levocetirizine, montelukast, or any ingredient in the product.

 

Important warnings:

  • Not for treatment of sudden asthma attacks.
  • Monitor for behavioural or mood changes.
  • Use only according to the prescribed age group and dosage.

 

Drug Interactions

Use cautiously with:

  • Other antihistamines
  • Sedatives
  • Certain anti-epileptic medicines (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine)
  • Rifampicin

 

Cautions

  • May cause sleepiness in some children.
  • Monitor school-age children for concentration difficulties if drowsiness occurs.
  • Inform the doctor if the child has kidney disease.
  • Do not exceed the recommended dose.
