Used for:
- Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever)

Mechanism of Action
Desloratadine selectively blocks peripheral histamine H1 receptors, reducing allergy symptoms without causing significant sedation in most patients.
Direction of Use
Adults and adolescents (12 years and older):
- 1 tablet (5 mg) once daily
Instructions:
- Can be taken with or without food.
- Swallow with water.
- Take at the same time each day for best results.
Common Side Effects
- Headache
- Dry mouth
- Fatigue
- Drowsiness (uncommon but can occur)
- Sore throat
- Nausea
Serious Side Effects
Seek medical attention if:
- Severe allergic reaction
- Swelling of the face, lips, or throat
- Difficulty breathing
- Palpitations
- Fast heartbeat
- Severe skin rash
Warnings
Do NOT use if:
- Allergic to desloratadine or loratadine.
- The medicine has previously caused a serious allergic reaction.
Important warnings:
- Use cautiously in severe kidney impairment.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding should only be under medical advice.
- Although considered non-sedating, some people may still experience drowsiness.
Drug Interactions
Use cautiously with:
- Alcohol
- Sedatives
- Sleeping tablets
- Other antihistamines
While major interactions are uncommon, combining medicines that cause drowsiness may increase sedation.
