Composition
- Chlorpheniramine Maleate — usually 4 mg per tablet
Uses
Relief of allergy symptoms such as:
- Sneezing
- Runny nose
- Itching
- Watery eyes
- Skin rashes
- Hives (urticaria)
- Insect bite reactions
Used in:
- Hay fever
- Allergic rhinitis
- Food or drug allergies
- Common cold–related allergy symptoms
Direction of Use
- Usually:
- Adults: 1 tablet every 4–6 hours as needed
- Swallow with water
- Can be taken with or without food
- Do not exceed recommended dose
Side Effects
Common side effects:
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Dry mouth
- Blurred vision
- Nausea
- Constipation
Less common:
- Difficulty urinating
- Confusion (especially in elderly people)
- Restlessness (especially in children)
- Allergic reactions
Warnings / Interaction / Caution
- May cause drowsiness; avoid driving or operating machinery
- Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine
- Use cautiously in:
- Asthma
- Glaucoma
- Enlarged prostate
- Liver disease
- Epilepsy
- May interact with:
- Sleeping tablets
- Sedatives
- Antidepressants
- Other antihistamines
- Elderly people may be more sensitive to side effects
- Keep out of reach of children
- Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight
