Composition
- Melatonin 3 mg (synthetic or bio-identical hormone)
- Tablet excipients such as:

Melatonin is a natural hormone that regulates the sleep–wake cycle (circadian rhythm).
Use / Indication
- Short-term treatment of insomnia
- Difficulty falling asleep (sleep onset delay)
- Jet lag (adjusting sleep after travel across time zones)
- Shift work sleep disorder
- Irregular sleep patterns (delayed sleep phase)
- Sometimes used under medical supervision for:
- ADHD-related sleep disturbance
- Autism spectrum sleep problems
- Anxiety-related sleep difficulty (off-label)
Direction of Use
- Usual dose: 1 tablet (3 mg) once daily
- Take 30–60 minutes before bedtime
- Swallow with water
- Take at the same time each night for best effect
- Avoid bright light/screens after taking (improves effectiveness)
- Use short-term unless prescribed otherwise
Side Effects
Common:
- Drowsiness or next-day sleepiness
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Vivid dreams or nightmares
Less common:
- Irritability
- Mild mood changes
- Dry mouth
Rare:
- Confusion (usually in sensitive or elderly patients)
- Palpitations
Warning
- Do not drive or operate machinery after taking
- Avoid alcohol (increases sedation and reduces sleep quality)
- Not recommended without medical advice in:
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Severe depression or psychiatric illness
- May cause morning grogginess in some users
- Do not exceed recommended dose unless prescribed
Interaction
May interact with:
- Sedatives / sleeping pills → increased drowsiness
- Antidepressants → altered mood or sleep effects
- Blood thinners (e.g., warfarin) → possible increased bleeding risk
- Antihypertensives → may lower blood pressure further
- Alcohol → reduced effectiveness and increased sedation
- Caffeine → reduces sleep-promoting effect
Caution
- Elderly: increased sensitivity to sedation
- People with:
- Epilepsy
- Depression or mood disorders
- Autoimmune conditions

- Not a long-term standalone solution for chronic insomnia
