Use / Indications
Used for:
- Open-angle glaucoma
- Ocular hypertension (increased eye pressure)
Mechanism of Action
AZOPT reduces production of aqueous humour (fluid inside the eye), thereby lowering intraocular pressure and helping prevent optic nerve damage.
Direction of Use
- Typical dose:
- 1 drop in affected eye(s) 2–3 times daily depending on doctor’s prescription
- Shake bottle well before use
- Wash hands before application
- Avoid touching dropper tip to eye or surfaces
- If using other eye drops, wait at least 5–10 minutes between medications
- Remove contact lenses before use and reinsert after 15 minutes
Common Side Effects
Eye-related:
- Blurred vision
- Burning/stinging
- Eye discomfort or irritation
- Dry eyes
- Redness
- Feeling of something in the eye
Systemic:
- Bitter or unusual taste in mouth
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Drowsiness/fatigue
Serious Side Effects
Seek medical help if patient develops:
- Severe allergic reaction
- Skin rash/blistering
- Eye swelling
- Vision changes
- Severe eye pain
- Difficulty breathing
Warnings
Do not use in patients with:
- Allergy to sulphonamides (“sulfa” drugs)
- Severe kidney disease
- Hyperchloremic acidosis
- Hypersensitivity to brinzolamide
Drug Interactions
Use cautiously with:
- Oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., acetazolamide)
- High-dose aspirin/salicylates
- Other glaucoma medications
Cautions
- May temporarily blur vision; avoid driving immediately after use
- Use carefully in patients with liver disease
- Use cautiously in dry eye or corneal disease
- Avoid contamination of bottle tip
- Not advised during pregnancy/breastfeeding unless prescribed
- Keep bottle tightly closed and store properly
