Composition

Each tablet contains:

• Artemether 20 mg
• Lumefantrine 120 mg
• Drug class: Artemisinin-based combination antimalarial (ACT)

Uses / Indications

Used for treatment of:

• Uncomplicated Malaria
• Malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum
• Mixed malaria infections sensitive to artemether/lumefantrine

Not intended for prevention of malaria or severe malaria treatment unless directed in hospital settings.

Direction for Use

• Taken orally with food or milk
• Fat-containing food improves absorption and effectiveness
• Usually given over 3 days (6 doses total)

Typical schedule:

• First dose at diagnosis
• Second dose after 8 hours
• Then twice daily for the next 2 days

Dose depends on body weight and age.

If vomiting occurs within about 1–2 hours, another dose may be required.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Weakness
• Fever
• Loss of appetite
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Abdominal pain
• Joint or muscle pain

Serious side effects:

• Palpitations
• Irregular heartbeat
• Severe allergic reactions
• Fainting
• Severe skin reactions

Warnings

• May prolong QT interval (heart rhythm effect)
• Avoid combining with certain heart medications
• Use cautiously in:
• Heart disease
• Liver disease
• Electrolyte imbalance
• Incomplete treatment may lead to malaria recurrence or resistance

Interactions

May interact with:

• Other antimalarial medicines
• Certain antibiotics (macrolides)
• Antifungal medicines
• HIV medications
• Seizure medicines
• Anti-arrhythmics
• Grapefruit juice

Cautions / Precautions

• Complete the full dose even if symptoms improve
• Take with food for maximum effectiveness
• Seek medical care if:
• Fever persists
• Symptoms worsen
• Repeated vomiting occurs
• Signs of severe malaria develop
• Use carefully during pregnancy and breastfeeding under medical advice
