Composition
- Brinzolamide 1% (10 mg/mL)
- Brimonidine tartrate 0.2% (2 mg/mL)

Use / Indications
Used for:
- Open-angle glaucoma
- Ocular hypertension (raised intraocular pressure)
- Patients inadequately controlled with a single glaucoma medication
Mechanism of Action
- Brinzolamide reduces aqueous humour production by inhibiting carbonic anhydrase.
- Brimonidine decreases aqueous humour production and increases fluid drainage from the eye.
Together, they lower intraocular pressure and help protect the optic nerve.
Direction of Use
Typical dosage:
- 1 drop into affected eye(s) 2–3 times daily depending on prescription
Instructions:
- Shake bottle well before use
- Wash hands before application
- Avoid touching dropper tip
- Wait at least 5 minutes between different eye drops
- Remove contact lenses before use and reinsert after about 15 minutes
- Press inner corner of eye for 1 minute after instillation to reduce systemic absorption
Common Side Effects
Eye-related:
- Blurred vision
- Eye redness
- Eye irritation or itching
- Dry eyes
- Eye allergy
- White residue or “gunk” in eye corners
Systemic:
- Bitter or unusual taste
- Dry mouth
- Drowsiness/fatigue
- Dizziness
Serious Side Effects
Seek medical attention if patient develops:
- Severe eye pain
- Vision changes
- Severe allergic reaction
- Swollen eyelids
- Breathing difficulty
- Severe skin reactions
- Excessive sleepiness or fainting
Warnings
Do NOT use in:
- Sulfonamide allergy
- Severe kidney disease
- Hyperchloremic acidosis
- Children under 2 years
- Patients taking MAO inhibitors or certain antidepressants
- Hypersensitivity to brinzolamide or brimonidine
Drug Interactions
Use cautiously with:
- Oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (acetazolamide)
- CNS depressants/alcohol
- Antihypertensives
- Cardiac glycosides (digoxin)
- MAO inhibitors
- Tricyclic antidepressants
- High-dose salicylates
Cautions
- May cause drowsiness; avoid driving immediately after use
- Temporary blurred vision is common
- Use cautiously in:
- Depression
- Low blood pressure
- Heart disease
- Raynaud’s syndrome
- Liver disease
- Diabetes
- Contains preservative that may irritate eyes and discolor soft contact lenses
- Long-term use may worsen dry eye symptoms
