PRODUCT DETAILS

Composition

  • Chloramphenicol 1% w/w (10 mg/g ointment)
  • Ointment base (usually paraffin/mineral oil base)

Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that stops bacterial growth in the eye.

Use / Indication

Used for bacterial eye infections, such as:

  • Bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye)
  • Blepharitis (eyelid infection)
  • Minor superficial bacterial eye infections

It does NOT treat viral or allergic eye problems.

Direction of Use

  • Usually apply a small strip (~1 cm) into the lower eyelid
  • 2–4 times daily (or as prescribed)
  • Common practice:
    • Use eye drops during the day
    • Use ointment at night (because it blurs vision)

Steps:

  • Wash hands
  • Pull lower eyelid down
  • Squeeze thin ribbon of ointment inside eyelid
  • Close eye for 1–2 minutes
  • Avoid touching tube tip to eye

Finish full course even if symptoms improve.
