Composition
Each refill pad contains a blend of aromatic essential oils (non-medicated), commonly:
- Lavender oil
- Chamomile extract
- Menthol
- Camphor
- Eucalyptus oil
These are released slowly as vapour when used with the Vapour Plug device.
Use / Indication
- Relief of blocked nose and congestion in children
- Helps ease breathing during:
- Common cold
- Flu
- Mild sinus congestion
- Promotes better sleep and night-time comfort
- Helps children breathe more easily at night by soothing nasal irritation
Direction of Use
- Open foil pouch carefully (do not touch pad directly)
- Insert 1 refill pad into Calpol Vapour Plug device
- Plug device into wall socket
- Use mainly at night or during sleep
- Each pad lasts up to 8 hours
- Replace pad when vapour weakens
- Dispose of used pad safely and wash hands after handling
Side Effects
Usually mild and uncommon:
- Mild nasal irritation or sneezing
- Eye irritation if vapour is strong
- Coughing or throat irritation in sensitive users
- Headache (rare)
- Allergic reaction (rare: rash, discomfort, breathing sensitivity)
Warning
- Not suitable for children under 3 months (and use caution in very young infants)
- Do NOT ingest refill pads (toxic if swallowed)
- Avoid direct skin contact with pad contents
- Do not overload room with strong vapour (can irritate airways)
- Keep out of reach of children and pets
- Do not use damaged or leaking pads
- Stop use if breathing irritation occurs
Interaction
No direct drug interactions, but caution with:
- Other strong inhaled products (menthol oils, vapour rubs, eucalyptus oils) → may increase irritation
- Asthma or reactive airway disease → may worsen symptoms in sensitive children
- Cold medicines (paracetamol, antihistamines) → generally safe together
Caution
- This is a symptomatic comfort aid only (does not treat infection or cause of congestion)
- Some children may be sensitive to strong scents
- Use in a well-ventilated room, not enclosed spaces
- Avoid over-reliance if symptoms persist beyond a few days
- If nasal blockage is persistent, worsening, or with fever, medical evaluation is needed
