Composition
- Phenol 1.2% w/w
- Provides antiseptic action
- Also acts as a mild local anaesthetic (pain relief)
- Chlorhexidine digluconate 0.25% w/w
- Broad-spectrum antiseptic (kills bacteria on skin)
Indication / Use
Used for minor skin problems, including:
- Cuts and grazes
- Minor burns and scalds
- Blisters
- Insect bites and stings
- Spots
- Chapped or rough skin
Main purpose:
- Prevent infection
- Reduce pain and irritation
- Soften and soothe skin
Direction of Use
- Clean affected area first
- Apply a thin layer to the skin
- Rub gently (or apply on gauze for very tender areas)
- Use 1–several times daily as needed
- External use only
Side Effects
Common:
- Mild burning or stinging
- Skin irritation or redness
- Itching or rash
Less common:
- Dryness or eczema-like reaction
Rare but serious:
- Severe allergic reaction (swelling, breathing difficulty, widespread rash)
- Eye damage if accidentally exposed
Warnings
- Do NOT use if allergic to:
- Avoid contact with eyes completely
- Can cause serious eye injury if it gets in the eye
- Do not use on:
- Large areas for long periods
- Deep or heavily infected wounds without medical advice
- Stop use if:
- Irritation worsens
- Signs of allergy appear
Interactions
- No major drug interactions when used on skin
- Avoid combining with other strong antiseptics on the same area unless advised (may irritate skin or reduce effectiveness)
Caution
- For minor, superficial wounds only
- Overuse may cause skin sensitivity or irritation
- Not a substitute for medical care if:
- Wound is deep
- Infection develops (pus, spreading redness, fever)
- Chlorhexidine products may rarely cause serious allergic reactions
- Keep away from children and eyes at all times
