Composition

Contains three antibiotics:

  • Polymyxin B Sulphate 5000 units/g
  • Neomycin Sulphate 3400 units/g
  • Bacitracin Zinc 400 units/g

 

Uses / Indications

Used for prevention and treatment of minor bacterial skin infections such as:

  • Minor cuts
  • Scrapes
  • Burns
  • Abrasions
  • Impetigo
  • Boils (furuncles/carbuncles)
  • Minor infected wounds

 

Direction for Use

  • For external use only
  • Clean and dry the affected area before application
  • Apply a thin layer 1–3 times daily
  • May be covered with a sterile bandage if necessary
  • Usually not used for longer than 7 days unless directed by a healthcare professional

 

Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Mild skin irritation
  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Burning sensation

 

Serious side effects:

  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Swelling
  • Rash
  • Hearing problems (rare, mainly with excessive neomycin absorption)

 

Warnings

  • Avoid contact with:
    • Eyes
    • Mouth
    • Large open wounds
  • Do not use on:
    • Deep puncture wounds
    • Serious burns
    • Animal bites without medical advice
  • Stop use if irritation worsens or rash develops

 

Interactions

Possible interactions may occur with:

  • Other topical skin medicines
  • Other medicines containing aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as neomycin)

Risk of toxicity may increase if used excessively on damaged skin.


 

Cautions

Use cautiously in:

  • People allergic to antibiotics such as neomycin or bacitracin
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • Children under 2 years unless advised by a healthcare professional

Do not apply over large body areas or for prolonged periods.
