Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol works by:
- Reducing the production of pain signals in the brain.
- Acting on the temperature-regulating center of the brain to reduce fever.
Direction of Use
- For rectal use only.
- Remove the wrapper and gently insert the suppository into the rectum.
- Dosage depends on age and body weight.
Examples:
- Children around 20 kg (about 5 years): One 250 mg suppository every 4–6 hours as needed, not exceeding 4 doses in 24 hours.
Common Side Effects
Paracetamol suppositories are generally well tolerated, but may cause:
- Mild rectal irritation
- Redness around the rectal area
- Skin rash
- Allergic reactions (rare)
Serious Side Effects
Seek medical attention if:
- Severe allergic reaction
- Swelling of the face, lips, or throat
- Difficulty breathing
- Severe skin rash
- Signs of liver injury (yellow eyes, dark urine, severe nausea)
Warnings
Do NOT use:
- If allergic to paracetamol.
- Together with other paracetamol-containing medicines unless advised by a healthcare professional.
- In doses higher than recommended.
Drug Interactions

- Other products containing paracetamol
- Warfarin (long-term regular use may increase anticoagulant effect)
